Watchmakers repair the mechanical and electronic timepieces most people assume nobody knows how to fix anymore. The job starts with disassembling a watch or clock under magnification loupes, examining dozens of tiny components — gears, springs, jewels, the escapement — to find what's actually wrong, which is rarely obvious from the outside.
